Soon after its release, Kauwboy won two major awards at the Berlin International Film Festival: one for best debut feature and another for the best children's film.

One day, 10-year-old Jojo discovers a young jackdaw and takes it home with him. However, he keeps it hidden from his father who won't allow any animals in the house. Afraid of his father's aggressive moods, Jojo is torn between caring for the jackdaw and loyalty towards his father. Until that is, all hell breaks loose.
