Films by Dutch filmmakers are attracting plenty of visitors. By November 2011 no less than eight Dutch films were listed in the weekly Top 20. Three Dutch feature films have reached the status of Golden Film: Bennie Stout, Furious and The Heineken Kidnapping.
Saint Nicholas has not arrived in Holland yet but already over 100.000 people have seen Bennie Stout by Johan Nijenhuis. Through no fault of his own, Bennie, a young boy in the year 1930, ends up in the big bag of Saint Nicholas. How to revolt against the greatest children's friend in the world? Bennie Stout was released on October 5th.
Furious by Dave Schram also reached the Golden Film status for attracting over 100.000 visitors since its release on October 12th. The film tells the story of fifteen-year-old Sven who flees into his own world of filming his free-running friends while he suffers from beatings at home.
The Heineken Kidnapping reached the Golden Film status within just four days since its theatrical release on October 27th. Maarten Treurniet’s film is based on the kidnapping of beer tycoon Freddy Heineken in the early eighties of the last century.
More of fresh Dutch film talent is expected at the cinemas this month. Marco van Geffen's Among Us (Art Cinema Award Locarno Film Festival), family film Alfie, the Little Werewolf by Joram Lürsen and Nova Zembla (Reinout Oerlemans), Holland’s first 3D film, will hit the screens.
