Sylvia Hoeks will play the leading lady alongside Geoffrey Rush and Donald Sutherland in the international film production The Best Offer. The film will be directed by Italian Giuseppe Tornatore, who won an Oscar for Cinema Paradiso in 1988.

EYE won two FOCAL International Awards on 2 May; the Desmet Collection won the award for best archive project and Karel Doing’s Liquidator won an award for the best use of archive material in a short film.

EYE has already hosted more than 38,000 visitors in its opening week. Over sixteen thousand people bought tickets to see a film or visit the opening exhibition. The rest of the visitors came to explore the new building, join in the free interactive Basement, or enjoy the EYE bar & restaurant and museum shop.

EYE, the new film museum on the river IJ, is open! EYE was officially declared open on Wednesday 4 April at 21:00 p.m. by HRH Queen Beatrix in the presence of a host of well-known Dutch actors and leading members of the cultural scene. The ‘outsiders’ were not forgotten, either: a light show projected on the museum could be seen from Amsterdam’s Central Station.

EYE is among the finalists in four categories for the FOCAL International Awards. The nominated films and projects are: Karel Doing’s Liquidator (for the category Best Use of Footage in a Short Production), the website Film In Nederland (Best Use of Footage on Non-television Platforms), EYE’s Desmet Collection (Best Archive Restoration/Preservation Project) and Shoes (1916, Best Archive Restoration/Preservation Title).

EYE opens on April 5th 2012 with Found Footage: Cinema Exposed. The exhibition and accompanying film program reveals how artists and filmmakers utilize the virtually inexhaustible reservoir of images that can be found in film archives, on Internet, TV and DVD.
