As of 1 April 2011, Jaap Guldemond has been named Director of Exhibitions at EYE Film Institute Netherlands. Guldemond, an art historian, has worked as a conservator at the Van Abbemuseum and until recently he was a senior curator at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.
At its new location in northern Amsterdam, EYE will have an exhibition space of 1,200 square metres. This accomodates the Institute’s wish to not only show films but to also be able to surprise its visitors with special exhibits about filmmakers, film history and cross developments in the area of film and other visual arts.
At the Van Abbemuseum and at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen he has worked with artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Aernout Mik and Douglas Gordon. He was responsible for the Boijmans’ Artist in Focus projects at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. At EYE, Guldemond will be focusing on the work of important film auteurs, the history of experimental avant-garde film and the boundaries between cinema and other visual arts.
