    Borgman, the new feature film by Dutch film maker Alex van Warmerdam is selected for the main competition of the Cannes International Film Festival 2013. For the first time in 38 years, a Dutch film succeeded to break through to the main competition of the world's leading film festival.

    On May 7th 2013 EYE launches its new networking group called EYE Connect with an exciting event. The members of this group support the exhibitions of EYE. This first event is intended for people who want to find out more about what EYE and EYE Connect has to offer. EYE Connect members are offered four network events per year, reduced admission fees and much more.

    Two new additions to the Europa Film Treasures website

    EYE has recently contributed two more films to the Europa Film Treasures (EFT) portal, bringing the number of EYE films on this streaming video platform to eleven. EFT is freely accessible to everyone and presents the films with new commissioned scores and with the option to watch them with subtitles in five languages. EYE and EFT have been collaborating since 2009.

    International attention for the collections of EYE

    From Berlin to Hong Kong, from Madrid to Los Angeles: copies from EYE’s film collections are being shown all over the world. The vivid interest taken in EYE’s collections by fellow museums and film archives not only relates to silent movies from the beginning of the twentieth century, but also extends to Dutch experimental film makers or films that have been restored to their former glory by EYE, as for instance films by the German director Werner Schroeter.

    EYE welcomes its 250,000th paying visitor

    On 18 December 2012 EYE welcomed its 250,000th paying visitor. Since the opening of its new building on 5 April this year, EYE has been able to welcome more than 500,000 visitors.The Found Footage, Stanley Kubrick and Expanded Cinema exhibitions were especially well received by the public.

    “Audiovisual heritage memory? The clock is ticking”

    In 2005, UNESCO declared 27 October as the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage to raise awareness of the significance of audiovisual documents and to draw attention to the need to safeguard them. This year’s motto is  “Audiovisual heritage memory? The clock is ticking”. Every year, many heritage institutes around the world celebrate this day by organising events to emphasise the importance of AV preservation and to raise general awareness.

    eCommons3: Sustainable Futures for Digital Archives - Conference Registration Open

    Registration is open for the third international Economies of the Commons conference, held at EYE Film Institute Netherlands on 11-12 October 2012. Professionals and academics working in the areas of film, video and photography archiving and (online) accessibility will be able to catch up on recent developments in archiving here. The evening programme on 11 October, which will feature an EYE FilmQuiz and VJs, will be open to the general public.

    EYE welcomes 100,000th visitor

    On 11 July EYE celebrated receiving its 100,000th paying visitor. Since opening its doors in April this year, the new film museum has welcomed more than 225,000 visitors. Both the film programmes and the exhibitions have attracted scores of viewers.

    Dutch documentary Meet the Fokkens coming to American cinemas soon

    Following a successful screening in the Netherlands, the Dutch documentary film Meet the Fokkens will be on view in the United States from 8 August 2012. American film distributor Kino Lorber recently bought the film rights for the US. The film will be showing for two weeks in New York’s Film Forum, to be followed by a tour of various American cinemas.
