The Three Disappearances of Soad Hosni - E* Cinema Special

The Three Disappearances of Soad Hosni - E* Cinema Special Rania Stephan (Lebanon 2011)
Language: Arabic , subtitles: English
80 min - E*Cinema

A passionate ode to a rich, diverse period of Egyptian film production, through the work of film star Soad Hosni. Since the 1960s she has epitomized the modern Arab woman in all her complexity and paradoxes.

Owing to her from-rags-to-riches story Hosni acquired the nickname, the Cinderella of the Arab cinema. The Three Disappearances of Soad Hosni exclusively comprises VHS images from Egyptian films; the story is constructed as a tragedy in three parts in which the actress tells the story of her life. The crude, electronically damaged images are an ode to the VHS tape and a special, poetic rewriting of a Golden Age of Egyptian cinema.
