EYE manages approximately 47,000 posters from different countries and periods. Posters were usually made to promote films, but they can also be important in themselves. EYE collects and presents posters with artistic or filmhistorical value.
The focus is on the collection of Dutch posters, but EYE also possesses foreign posters of Dutch films. For instance, we have unique designs from post-war Poland, the Czech Republic and Cuba, where especially beautiful posters were made between 1945 and 1965.
Newly acquired posters are registered on arrival, after which they are photographed and digitized. EYE keeps the posters lying flat in acid-free archival boxes, at a controlled temperature and humidity.
A changing selection of the poster collection is on display in EYE to correspond with current programming. These posters are also featured here.
