The humorist and music-hall singer Leon Boedels was one of the most popular artists of his time in Amsterdam. He began his career in 1883. From 1893 until his death in 1930, he worked at the Variété Flora, as narrator, director, and, beginning in 1908, as general manager.
Boedels was also a cameraman and director at Filmfabriek F.A. Nöggerath. He made e.g. newsreels and film inserts for theatrical revues including 'Amsterdam op hol!' In the early 1910s, Boedels directed a number of F.A. Nöggerath Jr.-produced feature films, including De Bannelingen and Graaf Willem IV van Holland. He made these films together with Caroline van Dommelen.
