Camera, sound and story

Youngsters are used to looking at films and thinking about the story. But if they look more closely, what do they see? In this online guest class, your pupils analyse the short Dutch film Sevilla in terms of the cinematic elements sound and camera work as well as narrative structure. They discover the power of visual language in a playful way.

Watching with greater awareness

Why is the story not presented chronologically? Why does the camera move around so much? Why is there a pause in the music and in the sound effects? By watching the film Sevilla, your pupils discover the effects a filmmaker’s choice has on their viewing experience. They work in groups on small assignments and are encouraged to watch with greater awareness; an essential skill in today’s world.

Watching as a filmmaker is suited for the upper classes of secondary education, pre-vocational secondary education and senior secondary vocational education.
