Afgrunden + Porn Art

Can porn be considered art? Independent filmmaker Jennifer Lyon Bell addresses the question by presenting erotic short films, including her own Head Shot, a response to Warhol’s Blow Job. Asta Nielsen, who rose to international fame with her provocative dancing in Afgrunden (1910) effortlessly combined eroticism with film art.

In this filmclip presentation, erotic filmmaker Jennifer Lyon Bell (Blue Artichoke Films) discusses the growing genre of modern cinema that blurs the boundary between art and pornography. With their new approaches to story, style, and purpose, these arousing films portray sex in a unique way. Jennifer also shares her behind-the-scenes filmmaker perspective on the key issues these filmmakers grapple with.

This evening Bell's erotic virtual reality 3D 360° immersive experience Second Date (2017) will have an exclusive preview at EYE. Second Date is a lighthearted, unscripted VR-portrait of two young people fumbling towards ecstasy. Trying to find common ground, their conversation veers from clumsy to joyous and back again -- until they finally start connecting for real. In a significant departure from typical VR representations of sex, Second Date encourages the viewer to intimately share the couple’s emotional and physical space, but not as an actual intruder. Second Date will be shown in a seperate viewing space in the EYE building.
