Bloedgeld (Blood Money)

How do you present film material that can hardly stand the test of time due to changing technological conditions or screening contexts? On Collection Day, EYE curators explain how film history comes alive through the use of new technologies and various presentation possibilities, based on films from the collection. ‘Wayward’ film material once more comes into its own.

Blood Money is a detective film about a woman who marries a rich man out of greed but is thrown out of his house after an adulterous affair. Later she tries to get her hands on the inheritance, even at the cost of her own daughter.

work in progress

The collected material provides clues about how the film was released in its own day. This has made it possible to restore and present the film in various ways: for instance as a purely historical  document, or in a newly edited and completed version that can be better appreciated by contemporary  audiences.

On this afternoon EYE collection specialists will screen a ‘work in progress’ version that provides insight in the various perspectives on restoration. The screening of this version also makes clear which decisions and debates contributed to the final restoration project.

Presentation by Elif Rongen-Kaynakçi, Silent Film curator and film restorer Annike Kross.

Tickets are free and to be collected on the 27th of May, at the EYE ticket desk.
