Dag van de Korte Film

The Short Film Day is celebrated on 21 December, the shortest day of the year. On this day audiences in Dutch film theatres are treated to a special programme of the best homegrown short films, such as Intermission Expedition in which tourists go on strange excursions and Short Trip about a group of young friends that deal with loss in their own specific way. English subtitled.

Korte Kuitspier (Victoria Warmerdam, NL 2019, fiction, 13’)
Short Calf Muscle is an absurdist black comedy about Anders. And Anders is different. But he doesn’t know that. Yes, he’s also gay, but that’s not the point here. There is also this thing that others see but he doesn’t.
Winner Best Short at the Roze Filmdagen and Best Comedy Short at Mexico International Film Festival.

Intermission Expedition (Wiep Teeuwisse, NL 2019, animation, 8’)
Observations by a group of tourists in an originally conceived animation movie. Initially lost in a strange landscape, they cautiously start looking for new experiences.
Worldpremière at Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Winner Best Independent Animator at Florida Animation Festival.

Zeepaard (Natalie Bruijns, NL 2019, fiction, 21’)
From the moment Dana reports to the abortion clinic, doubt sets in. This short film shows how many emotions this seemingly simple operation evokes.

See Me (Patty Stenger en Yvonne Kroese, NL 2020, animation, 8’)
When nobody sees you – not even your own mother – you automatically start looking at things differently. In a little girl’s fantasy, the legs of an adult become wooden branches and a lap dog a monster. And it turns out the fish on that sandwich is actually still alive.
Winner Gouden Kalf Nederlands Film Festival 2020

Short Trip (Cassandra Offenberg, NL 2020, documentary, 25’)
Documentary about six friends in their twenties with boundless energy, wild dreams, and big desires. Until one of them dies unexpectedly. What remains of their feelings of immortality?
