Part of Cello & Film

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

John Barrymore is magnificent as the good-natured doctor wanting to explore the darker sides of human nature in this early adaptation of R.L. Stevenson’s horror story. World premiere of a new score by Florian Magnus Maier.

Dr. Jekyll, a respected surgeon in Victorian London, has become fascinated by the duality of human nature. Using a chemical formula he succeeds in effecting a division of good from evil – only to discover his own dark side as ‘Mr. Hyde’. The experiment appears a success until his evil alter ego begins to take control…

Barrymore is magnificent as the peculiar doctor who ventures out into the unknown and is no longer able to control the dark side of his nature. A scintillating adaptation of Robert L. Stevenson’s classic horror story.

Musical accompaniment by Cellokwartet Ferschtman: Dmitry Ferschtman, Larissa Groeneveld, Ketevan Roinishvili and Emile Visser (cello), Florian Magnus Maier (electronica).
