La chèvre au pieds d'or

In this espionage drama set in the days of the Russian Partition a young ballet dancer from a poor background is compelled to spy for an aristocrat. Cinema Concert with live musical accompaniment by the Swedish film composer and pianist Matti Bye.

Katinka is from a poor family that is terrorized by an alcoholic father with a violent temper. She runs away from home and becomes romantically involved with a man, but the two are soon arrested and jailed. Katinka’s only way out is to agree to become a spy for Baron Erdlich. She becomes a famous dancer and marries the lawyer Marc Brégyl, but her marriage and espionage career break down.

Live musical accompaniment by the Swedish film composer and pianist Matti Bye, a specialist in improvising live to silent film screenings and a long-standing associate of the Swedish Film Institute in Stockholm. His main interest lies in the early cinema, as its music formed an emotional counterpoint to the image.

Bye is always looking to create a kind of a ‘magical, emotional alchemy' between music and footage in his performances. He made a name for himself as a film composer writing scores for films of early directors like Mauritz Stiller and Viktor Sjöström; he also composed the music for the arthouse hit The hundred-year-old man who climbed out the window and disappeared
