Every year Shortcutz Amsterdam hosts a different type of awards ceremony by inviting the most inspiring film personalities to give a speech to inspire the new generation to create more and better movies. It’s our way of trying to create an awards ceremony where everybody wins something, at the very least some inspiration.

As in the previous years, exciting guests will deliver some powerful and inspiring speeches to the new generation of Dutch filmmakers. This year we can count with some inspiring words from:

  • directors Bilall Fallah, Adil el Arbi (Bad Boys for Life, Patser)
  • executive producer Mark Foligno (The King's Speech, Moon)
  • actress Romana Vrede (TBS, De Eetclub)
  • director Mees Peijnenburg (Paradise Drifters, Even Cowboys Get To Cry
  • screenwriter Robert Alberdingk Thijm (A'dam - E.V.A., De Belofte van Pisa
  • actress Melody Klaver (Rafaël)
  • director Diederik van Rooijen (Penoza, The Possession of Hannah Grace)
  • writer Mano Bouzamour (De Belofte van Pisa, Bestsellerboy)
  • film journalist René Mioch will co-host this event.

More epic names will join this lineup, we will keep you informed through our website and Facebook page.

This newly created Rutger Award Award honours our late ambassador, jury member and board advisor Rutger Hauer, who has played an instrumental role in the success and development of Shortcutz Amsterdam. This award is given to an individual or institution who, like Rutger Hauer, have had a positive and inspiring impact on the next generation of Dutch filmmakers. The recipient of the award is decided upon by the Foundation Shortcutz Amsterdam's Board, previous honourees and Rutger Hauer's family. The first recipient is director Paul Verhoeven. Rutger Hauer's wife, Ineke Hauer-ten Cate will present the award, which has been designed by Dutch artist Folkert de Jong.

After the Gala, you can join us at Eye café for a DJ act. So do not forget to bring your dancing shoes. Join us in the Eye café from 23:00 onwards for some serious dance moves. Actor Nizar el Manouzi will take care of the DJ activity this year!
