The Man Without a Past
A sensitive, occasionally drily comical portrait of a man suffering from amnesia. The film was nominated for an Oscar, won the Grand Prix at Cannes plus an award for Best Actress and to top it all, Kaurismäki’s dog won the Palm Dog Award for best canine performance.
The Essential Aki Kaurismäki programme celebrates Finland’s first centenary as an independent country. The Finnish republic was proclaimed on 6 December 1917, not long after the October Revolution in Russia.
