Cinematographic and artistic VR
Xtended presents work by artists and filmmakers Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Laurie Anderson, Marina Abramović and Tsai Ming-liang, who are cued by VR experience to offer alternative and challenging views of our world. Their virtual stories, visual finds and triggered experiences touch our emotions, resonate with us and make us stop and think.
Virtual Reality productions are an increasingly important element of the contemporary film experience. Eye has created a new programme, Xtended, to focus on VR. In Xtended, you’re not confronted with the flat surface of a film screen. You move around virtually in 3D through a designed space that surrounds and immerses you on all sides.
Captured (Hanna Haaslahti)
How do riots arise? How does it feel to be an aggressor, victim or spectator in a raging crowd? Captured is an immersive installation that lets you experience this for yourself. Your digital doppelganger steps into a virtual community with red, green, and blue avatars who soon find themselves facing each other. As an actor and spectator, you experience how peer pressure and behavioural contagion can pull individuals into situations that are no longer easy to control. In Eye 12 May through 6 June, free admission.
VR can have side effects. Read more on virtual reality sickness.
