Eyeshadow is a new monthly series on Saturday night featuring cool, offbeat and thrilling films, live performances and drinks at the bar. Each edition starts with a film screening, followed by a performance in the IJlounge: every month Eyeshadow selects a high-profile modern classic with a striking soundtrack. After the film screening a live band plays music that connects with the film.
Cinema and music have impacted and enhanced each other ever since the invention of film. This has led EYE to start a new series, Eyeshadow, based on a sophisticated combination of the two. Expect Indie classics from roughly 1990 to the present, followed by unique and provocative live acts in line with the film. Eyeshadow kicks off on Saturday 25 March when we screen Drive (2011), followed by a performance by Dutch singer BEA1991.
The artists and films are matched on the basis of a vital connection between film and band. Sometimes it is the drawling synths from the soundtrack, or the melancholic atmosphere, but the combination can also be triggered by the film’s basic storyline or the band’s personal choice. In the first six editions of the programme, we lead you on a rollercoaster ride from sultry action thriller to mysterious science fiction film, from spacey synthesizers to in-your-face punk rock. Among the highlights of the first six editions are Donnie Darko and Jo Goes Hunting, The Virgin Suicides and Amber Arcades, Wild at Heart and St. Tropez.
