Filmprogramme Alex van Warmerdam

10 June - 2 September 2018

This summer Eye will be bringing together new work by Alex van Warmerdam in an exhibition created especially for the Filmmuseum, and nine of Van Warmerdam's films will be screened in a special film programme.

Alex van Warmerdam - L'histoire kaputt is an idiosyncratic solo. Characters, objects and situations come to life in an enigmatic, tightly staged setting, covered with large projected scenes from Van Warmerdams films. At Eye Filmmuseum's invitation, Alex van Warmerdam has created an exhibition with new films, installations and objects. Film, theatre, design and painting come together and highlight all facets of Van Warmerdam's artistic skill; in all parts of the exhibition lies the sober imagination and idiosyncrasy of Van Warmerdam as a film and theatre-maker, writer and painter.

Van Warmerdam directed nine feature films, and all nine carry the signature of the maker down to the smallest detail. Action, mise-en-scène and art-direction are tightly choreographed, the narrative form often unconventional. Eye will show them all, from Abel to Schneider Vs Bax. Grimm will be screened later in a new version.

Many of the films are shown with English subtitles, this information can be found on the film pages.
