Teenagers Eli and Nina are trying to get by, each in their own way, during their parents’ (Carice van Houten and Pieter Embrechts) messy divorce. This family drama is narrated twice, using a mirrored form – once from the perspective of each child.
The lives of Eli (14) and Nina (16) seem carefree. Eli has made the swimming team, and Nina is in love with her girlfriend Steffie. When Maria and Jacob get divorced, they find themselves caught between their parents. In the struggle and ensuing squabbles about shared custody, Eli and Nina are forced to make choices they don’t want to make. The custody battle means they have to share their wishes, fears and feelings with a judge.
