A Fistful of Dollars
Sergio Leone / IT, DE, ES, 1964 / 101 min.
The first part of Sergio Leone’s legendary trilogy, featuring Clint Eastwood, intended to breathe new life into the western genre. The Italian director relocated Akira Kurosawa’s samurai action comedy Yojimbo to the American Wild West.

Sergio Leone shot his ‘spaghetti Western’ in Spain, casting American TV actor Clint Eastwood (‘Rowdy Yates’ from Rawhide) as the ‘Man with No Name’ – a mysterious, poncho-clad gunfighter playing off two rival gangs of bandits against one another in a desolate Mexican border town. The film’s laconic antihero, sarcastic humour, stylish look and spectacular gunfights made it an international box-office hit – thanks also in no small part to Ennio Morricone’s iconic score.
