A Tribute to René Daalder
In Memoriam: A Tribute to René Daalder
To commemorate filmmaker René Daalder, who died on 31 December 2019, Eye presents an afternoon on the work of this original filmmaker and pioneer of the digital era. With introductions by Megan Daalder and others.

The short film Body and Soul I (1966, 35mm) and the documentary Here Is Always Somewhere Else (2006), about artist Bas Jan Ader, nominated for a Golden Calf, will be shown, as well as segments from De 1, 2, 3 Rhapsodie (1965) and trailers of Daalder's feature debut De blanke slavin (1969) and the punk rock musical Population One (1986).
René Daalder (1944 - 2019) was an adventurous filmmaker, futuristic thinker and one of the pioneers of the digital age. Together with fellow Film Academy students Frans Bromet, Rem Koolhaas, Samuel Meyering and Jan de Bont, he was responsible for the cheerful and scandalous De 1, 2, 3 Rhapsodie in 1965. The filmmakers rebel against traditions, but also against the trendy nouvelle vague.
