Amsterdam Forever Young: Amsterdam, stad in het water

During SAIL 2025 Eye will present this special about a century of films set on or around Amsterdam’s waterways. In the past, canals were filled in to improve traffic flow and hygienic reasons, but recently water has been added again to the area surrounding the central station.

poster Amsterdam Forever Young: Amsterdam, stad in het water
The inhabitants of Amsterdam love being on or near the water and canal cruises are a popular attraction. The changing waterways of Amsterdam will be studied using excerpts from films including Jenny (1958), Aah… Tamara (1965), Amsterdam in en om de havens (1920) and Parlevinkers (1949). This will be followed by the screening of the 35 mm version of Amsterdamned (Dick Maas, 1988) from Eye’s collection.
