Auch Zwerge haben klein angefangen
Werner Herzog / DE, 1970 / 96 min.
Does Herzog’s third feature, shot in black-and-white, reflect the anarchistic spirit of the 1960s? Or is this surrealist nightmare, populated entirely by the small people referred to in the title, really as tasteless as some shocked reviewers claimed at the time?

The inhabitants of an unspecified institution rise up against the one-man management, who has locked himself in an office with a hostage. Whereas at first the besieging of the institute’s principal building somewhat resembles a Western, it soon turns out that the rebels have just one goal in mind: to create the greatest possible chaos.
