Captain and actor August Dirks lived and worked on the Azart for over 30 years. The Azartplein in Amsterdam was named after this ship of fools. August said he wanted to sail the Dutch East India Company or VOC route, but with different objectives. “Not to steal and murder, but to play and share.” The ship has since run aground on a beach in South America where the astounding tale continues, led by a local theatre group.
