In the 1990s, Paul Verhoeven scored global hits with his Hollywood films Basic Instinct and Total Recall. Both have since been digitally restored and will be screened at Eye as a double bill – in Cinema 1, naturally. The films can also be watched individually.

In Basic Instinct Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) investigates the bloody murder of a pop star in LA. The latter’s girlfriend, Catherine Tramell, a mystery thriller author, is the main suspect. Tramell seems almost untroubled by her lover’s death. The murder was committed using an ice pick which just happens to echo a scene in Trammel’s most recent novel. Curran interrogates the hyperintelligent seductress Tramell incapable of avoiding her devious snares.
