Lav Diaz / PH, 2001 / 315 min.

Detective Juan Mijares’ investigation of the murder of a teenager who was shot dead on a winter evening on West Side Avenue in Jersey City leads to him immersing himself in the world of Filipino street gangs that deal shabu or crystal meth. His conversations with the boy’s mother, grandfather and American-born girlfriend uncover bigger questions: which dark history led so many Filipinos to emigrate to this frozen country? Why do their children live in these circumstances?

There will be no intermission. Lav Diaz encourages you to take breaks as needed.
