Being There
Hal Ashby / US, 1979 / 130 min.
Hal Ashby was one of the most versatile filmmakers of the New Hollywood generation, but from the ’80s his career faltered. This month in Eye we’re showing two restored Ashby classics, Harold and Maude (1971) and Being There (1979), the political satire starring Peter Sellers.

In Being There, Peter Sellers puts in an unforgettable performance as Chance the gardener, who’s worked all his life for a rich recluse. When he dies, Chance has to move out – and finds a home with a billionaire.
