Digna Sinke / NL, 1993 / 112 min.
Shortly after writing her first novel, Belle van Zuylen (1740-1805) meets the much younger Benjamin Constant in Paris. It is the start of a passionate friendship that lasts for many years. But finally, Benjamin’s infidelity and opportunism become too much for Belle. New digital version.

Three years before the revolution turns France upside down, Belle van Zuylen (Will van Kralingen) has gone to live in Paris, in search of personal freedom. She composes sonatas and is admired in the salons as the author of Caliste, her latest novel. Here Belle meets a shy, redheaded 19-year-old man and becomes fascinated by him: Benjamin Constant (Laus Steenbeeke). A tumultuous friendship grows up between them.
