Isabella Huppert is the centre of Brillante Mendoza’s hostage drama Captive as the unyielding Thérèse, a French NGO social worker. Mendoza based himself on the true story of the kidnapping of some hundred foreigners on Palawan, an island in the South Philippines, by militants from the Islamist Abu Sayyaf. The film received the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.
