Chilly Scenes of Winter
Joan Micklin Silver / US, 1979 / 97 min.
This is the third feature-length film by Joan Micklin Silver, who experienced both artistic and commercial success as one of the few female directors of the 1970s. A wryly comic portrait of a man (John Heard) and his obsessive love (Mary Beth Hurt).

Salt Lake City in winter: young municipal clerk Charles is bored to death by his job, and is grieving for a short but intense affair with his colleague Laura. He obsessively tries to win her back after she returns to her husband.

Liberating Hollywood
In its Liberating Hollywood programme, Eye is screening works by female directors working in the US in the 1970s. Pioneers of the second-wave feminist era, their work has seldom or never been screened in the Netherlands. Highlights of the programme are Wanda (Barbara Loden) and Girlfriends (Claudia Weill), the inspiration for Lena Dunham’s series Girls.
