Cinedans - Dutch Classics

Programme spotlighting Dutch dance films from the 1970s and 1980s. Dancemakers and filmmakers oftentimes joined creative forces. Their experiments are still regarded as the origins of contemporary visual experimentation.

Labyrint Albert Seelen, Peter Oosthoek and Koert Stuyf (NL 1971) 11'Labyrint is a study of the human body and a beetle, originally part of a multimedia project for the Holland Festival. Five years later, a re-edit of the original was made with a new score.

Understatement George Schouten, Ko de Regt and Beppie Blankert (NL 1973) 11'Short experimental film from the art movement “Hague School” by Frans Zwartjes.

Katarakt Jan Ketelaars (NL 1978) 9'Jan Ketelaars excelled in the rhythmic manipulation of simple subjects. Katarakt is a live-action animation of a naked man in a pitch-black space.

Easy Action Animated Jacques Verbeek, Karin Wiertz and Mike Paschenegger (NL 1979) 8'Animation consisting of nearly 3000 photos. Een woman and man move around each other in a cubic space. Their strides quietly turn into dance moves.

Ra-action in A Noud Heerkens and Bastiaan van Wingerden (NL 1979) 6'A solitary man in a factory. His loneliness is visualised by means of fascinating camera technique.

Shot Wilbert Bank and Bianca van Dillen (NL 1983) 22'Shot is a beautiful chronicle of the 1980s in Amsterdam. Costumes, street scenes and the iconic voice of Mathilde Santing take us back in time and capture the capital”s hustle.

Oidan Skroeba René Hazekamp and Angelika Oei (NL 1987) 4'A woman dances on a floor covered in sand, creating patterns on its surface with her movements.

Reservaat Clara van Gool (NL 1988) 8'Two women are dancing in an abandoned park. Reservaat was Van Gool”s first film, which instantly received a Golden Calf nomination – the grand prize of the Dutch Film Festival.

Cargo René Hazekamp and Piet Rogie (NL 1989) 9'A dancer is carrying a bucket, a photo album and his own body. An ecstatic dance unfolds, in which the camera acts as his dance partner.
