Of course there had been predecessors, including Freebie and the Bean and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, but it was 48 Hrs. that really set it all off in 1982. Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy rocked and provided Hollywood with a cast-iron formula. The absolute highlight of the genre is Buddy Night”s second film: Midnight Run. It also happens to be Robert de Niro”s best performance ever. His partner is the truly amazing Charles Grodin. Those two should have been given an Oscar.”
