An exciting programme featuring circus and music hall films, live music and acrobats. Includes L”homme qui marche sur la tête (FR, 1909), Les six soeurs Dainef (FR, 1902), Little Tich (FR, 1906)Compiled and presented by Vanessa Toulmin, Professor in Early Film and Popular Entertainment and director of the National Fairground Archive at the University of Sheffield. Toulmin comes from a British showland family. Like nobody else, she is able to combine academic expertise with personal experience in the world of the modern circus. Be prepared for magic hands, amazing female acrobatics, hula hoops, a contortionist and a dancing pig.
