Conspirators of Pleasure
Jan Svankmajer / CZ, 1996 / 85 min.
A black comedy on film about people who only abide by the principle of pleasure – making it a film about freedom, in the words of the Czech animator and visual artist Jan Švankmajer.

Conspiration of Pleasure is a dark grotesque consisting of live action and animation; underneath the “sexual perversion” of the protagonist lies the desperate loneliness of modern man.
The heroes in this tale are six characters who masturbate in a bizarre way, whereby not only the act itself plays an important role but also the strenuous and bothersome preparations.

Steaks, pebbles, iron locks: master animator Jan Švankmajer (Prague, 1934) can bring anything to life. His films are filled with obsession, lust, horror and eroticism, all underpinned by an undercurrent of abuse of power. Eye Filmmuseum presents the exhibition Jan Švankmajer - The Alchemical Wedding devoted to the work of Czech surrealist and master animator.
