Steve Thompson can’t help it. Back in Los Angeles his passion for his ex-wife Anna (Yvonne De Carlo) proves far from dimmed. Anna seems open to reconciliation, but has since married gangster Slim Dundee (Dan Duryea). To get rid of Slim, Steve plans an armoured car robbery that aims to provide plenty of loot for him and Anna.
