Daisies
Vera Chytilová / CSHH, 1966 / 77 min.
Two young women really shake things up in an attempt to escape the oppressive dreariness of Communism. Daisies by Czech nouvelle vague pioneer Vera Chytilová is both refreshing and exuberantly anarchic. Digital restoration (4K) of this 1960s classic.

Czechoslovakia, 1966 – two years before the Soviet invasion. Marie I and Marie II, young women with a lust for life, are bored. Communist culture is drab and devoid of imagination, so the pair of them decide to shake things up a bit. They don bathing costumes and brightly coloured dresses, have a huge food fight, steal what they need and generally turn everyday life upside down.
