Galicia, circa 1850. Baruch, son of an orthodox rabbi, is curious about life outside of the shtetl. To his father’s great disappointment, he chooses a worldly existence and joins a travelling theatre group, leading to Baruch being excluded from the community.

Live music

Accompanied live by violinist Alicia Svigals, co-founder of The Klezmatics (an American Klezmer ensemble that has won many awards, including a Grammy) and pianist Donald Sosin: as well as a composer and actor, one of the most renowned silent film pianists currently working.

This screening has been made possible thanks to financial support from the American Sunrise Foundation.
