De avonden
Rudolf van den Berg / NL, 1989 / 119 min.
Idiosyncratic adaptation of Gerard Reve's tragi-comic masterpiece De Avonden won a Golden Calf for Best Film and Best Actor (Thom Hoffman) at the Netherlands Film Festival in 1990. In memory of director Rudolf van den Berg.

Rudolf van den Berg didn’t create a literal adaptation of Gerard Reve’s famous first novel about angry young man Frits Egters who, immediately after World War Two, is trapped by his claustrophobic family circumstances. Frits thinks there must be more to life, he just doesn’t know how to find it.
