De Indische tafel, jongens van de Japanse kampen
Pieter van Huystee / NL, 2026 / 64 min.
Men in their 90s reminisce about the character-defining Indonesian childhoods they never spoke about. Using unseen footage from Japanese propaganda films they revisit a youth spent in Japanese internment camps during World War Two.

The men meet weekly for an Indonesian lunch. Born in the Dutch East Indies before World War Two, they reflect on how their lives changed during the Japanese occupation. They look back at their time in the camps, their liberation by the atomic bomb, the young Indonesian freedom fighters’ struggles and how colonial power returned in the shape of new capitalist companies who made more profit than ever.
