Egzul (exile)

For all short film lovers EYE organizes a special screening of Egzul. This short film by brother and sister Piotr and Agata Bartos was selected as winner of the month by Shortcutz Amsterdam in July 2015. With their short film, the two Polish filmmakers produced a sensitive portrait of a man lost in the big city.

The eleven-minute short which focuses on Egzul, a man “who eats to work and works to eat”, has been hailed as “enchanting”. Egzul wanders through an anonymous city, his only aim being to survive.

Egzul is a sensitive portrait by Piotr and Agata Bartos of the feelings of alienation that can grip a person when he is branded as an outsider. An extraordinary quality of the short film is the dignity with which the filmmakers invested their character, even against the grim urban background.

This short film is screened in collaboration with Shortcutz Amsterdam, an organisation committed to promoting the short – Dutch – film all year round. EYE regularly screens winners (of the month) selected by Shortcutz, recently BAM!, which was screened to accompany The Lobster.

The filmmakers will be present for a Q&A session afterwards. Admission is free.

Note: this short film is shown prior to the screening of Son of Saul, 21.30. If you have a ticket for the 21.30 screening, you are also welcome to join us at 21.00 for the screening of Egzul.
