The power of storytelling, that's what Eye's Shell Shock film programme is all about, with films about the processing of war experiences. After all those films, it's time for the real stories. On 20 May, we will be ending Shell Shock in a festive manner with a large dinner on the IJ riverbank. You buy a ticket for yourself and a refugee for an evening full of unexpected encounters.
After a (non-alcoholic) drink and an introduction, we will eat Syrian food and you can dance to Syrian, Iraqi and Eritrean music.
The tormented Vietnam War veteran Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, the soldiers suffering from PTSS in the documentary Crazy and the ex-tank commander of the animated film Waltz with Bashir share one thing: the urge to tell what happened to them in order to come to grips with it. Eye’s Shell Shock provides a forum for the cinematic representation of violent conflicts and traumatic memories.
