Eyeshadow: The Squid and the Whale + Meetsysteem
A proven classic and a happening band: this time a show by Meetsysteem to follow The Squid and the Whale, Noah Baumbach’s tragicomic story of a New York family going through divorce. Meetsysteem, the brainchild of young Amsterdam composer Ricky Cherim, welds together rustling experimental electronics and the sound of the ’80s.

New York, Brooklyn, 1986. The Berkmans are a writers” couple whose marriage is on the verge of collapse. Their sons Walt and Frank are trying to cope with the situation and take sides. Their estranged mother starts an affair, her youngest son faces problems at school.
Filmmaker Noah Baumbach examines the impact of divorce on a family. His sketch of four lives in crisis at the same time offers a tragicomic glimpse into New York intellectual snobbery and frustrated ambition. Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay (Baumbach).
new dutch act
What do Eefje Visser, Doe Maar, 1980s synth-pop and rustling experimental electronics have in common? All these sounds and influences merge in the music of a strong new Dutch act, Meetsysteem, the brain child of 27-year-old Amsterdammer Ricky Cherim.
Cherim “messes with computers until something musical comes out of it”, created beats for Dutch rapper Ome Omar for a while, went through a tech-house phase, to emerge as his very own musical self on stage!
