Heartwarming portrait of a primary school class in the Viennese neighbourhood of Favoriten. Many of the pupils have German as a second language and teacher Ilkay Diskut gives everyone a pep talk, yet struggles with a lack of teacher’s and traumatised children.
The pupils at the school Ilkay Idiskut teaches at are often from the Balkans or Turkey. They and their parents are the new inhabitants of the working class Favoriten neighbourhood in Vienna.
The children are put together in huge classes and struggle to learn German. For many of them it is a second language, yet they need to be readied for German secondary education.
