Ozu’s remake of his silent classic A Story of Floating Weeds of 1934 follows an elderly actor as he returns with his company to a small town, where he is reunited with his former lover and their illegitimate son. The film is screened as part of EYE’s Japan programme – a retrospective of 90 years of Japanese cinema – running until December this year.
