Four Nights of a Dreamer
Robert Bresson / FR, 1971 / 87 min.
In Paris, a young man with his head in the clouds and a young woman at the end of her tether enter into a trusting alliance that lasts four nights. Bresson’s most accessible and romantic film has not been seen on the big screen anywhere in the world since 1985. Restored in 4K.

After Jacques saves Marthe from jumping off Pont-Neuf bridge, they spend four nights together sharing their daydreams and heartbreak. Surrounded by the smouldering remains of May '68, they enter into a commitment that is at once mysterious and illuminating, immediate and equivocal. The raw emotions, sudden break-ups and melancholy are acted with great reserve – but then Four Nights of a Dreamer (Quatre nuits d’un rêveur) is Bresson’s most romantic film, even featuring songs that repeatedly interrupt the narrative.
Restored in 4K by MK2 Films, supervised by Mylène Bresson
