Gimme Shelter
David Maysles, Albert Maysles, Charlotte Zwerin / US, 1970 / 91 min.
Legendary documentary follows The Rolling Stones on their notorious 1969 tour of the US that led to the death of an 18-year old. Coming only four months after the oh so peaceful Woodstock, Altamont marked the end of the hippies’ peace and lover era.

Directors David Maysles, Albert Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin attend the two final concerts of the tour: the Madison Square Garden concert and, one week later, the free concert at San Francisco’s Altamont Speedway. The latter led to a clash between the 300,000 members of the ‘Love Generation’ and a dozen Hells Angels hired as security leading to the tragic death of 18-year-old Meredith Hunter who was stabbed to death.
