Grand Tour
Miguel Gomes / PT, IT, FR, 2024 / 129 min.
Miguel Gomes’ latest feature is a dizzying docufiction tale of love and loss set against the backdrop of the crumbling British Empire, told in both black-and-white and colour. Edward, a clerk in Rangoon, runs away from his fiancée Molly and criss-crosses the Asian colonies, with Molly hot on his heels.

“This film is quite unlike any other film in the competition”, The Guardian reported on the world première of Grand Tour at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
Miguel Gomes’ latest feature (winner of Best Director in Cannes) truly is a daring enterprise: combining a wry love story, a travelogue and an exploration of a historical era – the British Empire in the early 20th century. Add the inventive use of documentary material (some of which is in colour) within a fictional story and the exceptional transitions between the black-and-white and the colour sections, and you really do have a film that is “quite unlike any other”.
