Half Moon
Frank Scheffer / NL, 2025 / 92 min.
Frank Scheffer’s new documentary is a journey to the musical and personal roots of the Syrian clarinet player Kinan Azmeh. Does music provide a solution to war? To Azmeh playing music is definitively an ‘act of freedom’.

The more Syrian clarinet player Kinan Azmeh becomes cut off from his homeland due to the war, the more urgent becomes his desire to incorporate the traditional music from his region of birth into his pieces. In this documentary Kinan goes in search of his musical roots, studying his own history and its interconnections with the complex, violent relations in the region.
