Harold and Maude

Hal Ashby / US, 1971 / 91 min.

In the ’70s, Hal Ashby was one of the most versatile, unique filmmakers of the New Hollywood generation. With the American black comedy Harold and Maude, this idiosyncratic director made one of the cult classics of his era. Restored in 4K.

Harold and Maude tells the story of the exceptional bond between a death-obsessed young man (Bud Cort) from a rich family and a diabolical, bohemian woman aged around eighty (Ruth Gordon). The film is full of gallows humour and romanticism and blurs all the borderlines between class, gender and age. With strong acting and a remarkable soundtrack by Cat Stevens.
